How I became a Mac Fan...
My name is Marc Simmons, I live in King's Lynn, Norfolk, and this is my story. I was quite happily running Windows, XP Home Edition without a care in the world, life was good, but then... Vista! I couldn't wait to get my hands on the latest version of Windows, I wanted some of that WOW. I bundled up the cash and went down and picked up my upgrade copy, got home and started the install... That’s where the good time STOPPED! I won’t go into anymore detail about my Vista experiences now, Vista’s reputation precedes it!
My first Apple purchase was my 2.4 GHz iMac 24” and following a few days of learning OS X 10.5 Leopard I was away, before I knew it I was completing tasks faster and I was concentrating on these tasks and not the reliability or speed of my computer, surely this is how it’s meant to be. Most the software I was using on my PC was available on my iMac although my accounts package, Sage has to be run in Windows, no problem, I setup Windows XP in Bootcamp... Job done!
Initially during my switching time I was using my Pocket PC to get email, Internet and Skype on the go. I found, understandably by Pocket PC didn't play well with my iMac and it was tricky consolidating my email and bookmarks between two places. A combination of the iPhone 3G and MobileMe took my communication to another level... Embracing cloud computing is the best thing I could have ever done for my business. I now have all my email, bookmarks, and even work files all centralized on my MobileMe account, this means I get all my stuff anywhere, anytime, and what’s more it’s all backed up to my Time Capsule.
Internet TV, the next revelation... During a trip to Birmingham I visited the Bullring Mac Store and discovered the Apple TV and realized this would be an awesome addition to my expanding Mac network. The thought of accessing holiday snaps and all of my music collection in the living room and even through the surround sound system was irresistible. When I got Apple TV home and set it up I was amazed at how simple the device was to setup and get synced with. The added bonus of the Apple TV is a convenient and comfortable way to view Internet TV (Video Podcasts) in the living room on a decent sized TV, I weekly watch certain Internet TV shows on Apple TV.
iPods... I have had in total three iPods, the first being the Black Nano, leading in to the Product ‘RED’ Shuffle which I now use when working on messy jobs like cleaning my motorbike. My wife recently brought me the new Shuffle that speaks to you, I’ve got to say it’s pretty cool, and while some people are complaining about the lack of any screen do they not realize that voice notification uses much less power than a screen which means longer playing time... All good!
eBay purchases... I have recently purchased a few more Apple products from eBay such as a PPC Mac Mini, a 500GB Time Capsule and a 14” PPC iBook... as you can tell I’ve taken a good bite of the Apple and will continue to do so as long as these revolutionary products continue to simplify my digital life while delivering such a cool form factor.
A very happy Mac fan!
