I started my mission to get my shiney new White 16GB iPhone on Thursday 10th July by phoning o2 and getting advise on where to buy; online, over the phone, or in my local o2 store in King's Lynn. The o2 representative advised me that the best idea was to order over the phone at 09:00am on Friday morning with o2, so I waited until the fateful day and after a sleepless night I called o2 only to find they were no longer taking orders over the phone!! What now?! I had missed any opportunity of buying from store as when I called my local o2 store they informed me that only two iPhones were left and furthermore they were in black!
I had to think of something... Eureka!! then it hit me... The apple store that had recently opened in the Grand Arcade in Cambridge, surely they can help me?! With my fingers crossed I called the Apple store in search of that illusive iPhone... the store assistant picked up the phone and I asked that question... Do you have any iPhones in white 16GB? ...I couldn't believe it! ... he said YES!!! ... we have plenty in stock come into store and we'll get you sorted out... ok! thanks.
Off we went to Cambridge, just over an hour drive from King's Lynn where I live. We arrive at the Cambridge Apple store ready to buy that much anticipated iPhone... we walk into the store to be greeted by Apple staff who gave us the line... "we have good news and bad news"... We have plenty of iPhones but no way to sign up new customers as o2's online system is down! We were advised to go and get a coffee and have a walk around town and to come back later to see if the system would come back online. After spending almost an entire day in and out of the Apple store it was becoming clear that the system would not be back online that day... we were advised to go home and return the next day. I explained that we were told that we would have an iPhone today and that's why we drove all this way into store!! The guys in store were very understanding and went out of there way to help; they assured us that there were plenty of white 16GB iPhones in stock.
Saturday morning finally came and off we went back to Cambridge to try again and pick up that new iPhone. We arrived at the Grand Arcade Apple store late morning to be greeted by huge queues in-store... here we go again! ...but then I spotted the guy who had been so helpful the day before and he noticed us in the que. and ushered us through to an express que. where we finally got served with the prize!!
Because we had such a bad time they also gave me an Apple T-Shirt to where with pride! I can't be sure but I think mine was the first white 16GB iPhone in King's Lynn... What a hoot!!
